Use Growl as an alternative to Mountain Lion’s Notification Center

February 17, 2012

Growl is an open-source project available on Mac. It is another application that has already been developed and could face extinction when Mountain Lion is released in summer with Apple’s new features. Growl is very similar to Mountain Lion’s new Notification Center – almost identical in fact.

Use AirParrot or AirServer as an alternative to AirPlay mirroring

February 17, 2012

AirPlay Mirroring

A big new feature on Mountain Lion is AirPlay. With AirPlay mirroring you can connect your Mac to your Apple TV and display your desktop on the Apple TV screen. This will be very useful for conference and meeting rooms across the world and will surely help to boost sales.

AirParrot, a new app available on the Mac Store, does pretty much exactly what AirPlay mirroring does but doesn’t support audio – a feature coming soon. For just 10$ it is the perfect alternative to AirPlay mirroring until its release later this year.

AirServer has been around a little long and does a fairly similar job. AirServer turns your Mac into an AirPlay receiver. This means you can send audio and video from iOS devices to your Mac. This is perfect for applications like Spotify and iMovie. At just 8$ this is also a good alternative to the summer release of AirPlay mirroring.

Apple unveils iPad inspired OS X Mountain Lion

February 16, 2012

OS X Mountain Lion was revealed earlier today and is set for release in summer. It boasts new features, inspired by the iPad, which include the ability to send messages to other Apple products from your Mac, a notification centre, reminders, notes and more.

However, Apple are introducing a number of features that we can do easily from web applications already developed, such as Evernote and Dropbox. But Land of Apple is in no doubt that despite Apple’s new features being similar to others, they will be certainly be more elegant, simplistic and fresh.
